How do you prioritize time between your family and your blog?
My blog is my day job and I treat it as such. Family time happens after “the office” is closed, usually around 6:00 PM, Monday-Friday.
How do you relax?
Sew, read, bake
When and why did you start your blog (or Instagram or YouTube account)?
When I turned 50 in 2010, I was looking for a new career opportunity. My daughter, who was a stationery blogger at the time suggested I tried blogging because I am a writer and because people are always asking me for advice. It has been a wonderful adventure meeting new people and hearing their stories, sharing information to help find meaning in life after 50, traveling to interesting destinations, and giving my time to worthwhile causes.
How did you choose your blog name?
Played around with a couple of titles that would convey my blog’s purpose.
How do you define the difference between being a blogger and an influencer?
Blogger tells and shares stories. An Influencer works with brands, tries new products, and shares their experience of the brand.
When did you know that you made the transition?
About a year in to blogging I was approached by Pfizer to attend a 10-blogger meeting in New York where they shared their new initiative, Get Old, and wanted my opinions. It was awesome.
What keeps you motivated and inspired to blog, Instagram or YouTube?
There is something new to learn and share every day to enhance midlife. Also, I love meeting new people and hearing their stories.
Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
Improving and sharing my brand
Biggest life lesson learned since blogging?
Don’t hesitate—take the leap because there is always something good that will come from it.
What is your secret to success?
Be open to new ideas and new people.
What do you wish someone would have told you when you first started blogging?
That it is a gradual experience. Keep on keeping on being patient for recognition to come. Also, the space is constantly in flux. You have to be brave to move forward.
All Influencers encounter writer’s block. How do you get past this?
Reading midlife periodicals to see what is trending.
What has been your sweetest success story?
Being able to travel on behalf of my blog. I’ve been invited to blogging opportunities in New York, Washington,
D.C., Chicago, San Diego, Las Vegas, and the Dominican Republic.
What is your dream brand to work with? Have you been able to work with them yet? If so, please describe the experience.
Every brand is my dream brand when it fits my niche. I love giving shout outs to brands that I experience and
can share with my midlife followers.
What has been your most popular posts, videos, or photos?
Who are some of your favorite California Influencers that inspire you and why?
No one in particular. I appreciate many bloggers who have taken the risk.
